The Point Mall  has recently welcomed our new tenants, Leopard Lagree, who have drawn in a slew of fitness enthusiasts. Located on the Atlantic Seaboard and fitted with sleek and luxurious amenities, Leopard Lagree is an experience we all have to try this Summer!

How did Lagree Begin? 

Sebastien Lagree founded this type of High-Intensity Low Impact Full Body Muscular Endurance Training in 1998. Then, it was known as "Pilates Plus" because this workout strengthens, tightens and tones without bulking up. It is a goal for many women who want to lose fat and tone their bodies. But there is a clear difference between ​this workout style and Pilates, so he changed the name to Lagree.

What is Lagree?

Lagree Fitness effectively combines resistance, endurance, core, and cardio training to safely stimulate strength, flexibility, and balance. Men and women of all ages and abilities can benefit from this complete body workout

What is the difference between Lagree and Pilates? 

There are very few similarities between Lagree and Pilates. Pilates is a method developed in the 1920s and focused on five principles:

  • Breathing
  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Centring
  • Postural alignment​

Lagree offers high-intensity bodybuilding techniques and low impact movements.

The Lagree Fitness Method 

The 50-minute workout classes are based on the Lagree Fitness method and performed on the Megaformer. This standing machine contains two platforms, a moveable carriage with springs, handles, and additional accessories.

The exercises block together based on body parts and move at a slow and controlled pace (Lagree 4-count) with quick to no transition time between the blocks.  This method exhausts the muscles by activating the Slow Twitch Muscle Fibers (ST) - known as the "fat" burning fibre to build that long, lean physique many desire. As a result, the body burns a maximum number of calories in a minimal amount of time, and muscle tone and strength are most efficiently developed. 

It is an alternative or a great complement to Crossfit or other High-Intensity Training.

After a Lagree workout, you can expect muscle fatigue 24-72 hours later and the famous "Lagree shakes". Therefore, instructors recommend doing only 2-4 workouts per week.

What is a Megaformer?

The Megaformer M3 consists of a front platform that is solid and has a unique angular shape. The same platform is on the back of the machine. The M3 has eight springs in two different colours/tensions, which feature a unique spring system to create resistance. There are handlebars at the front and back of the machine and other types of cables. On the carriage itself, you can find lines and numbers for the alignment of your feet and hands. In addition, the carriage has a stability bar along the side.
